History

Founded in 1949, NOTIFIER has come a long way since its inception. NOTIFIER was first based in Waverly, Nebraska and then in Lincoln, Nebraska after experiencing such a growth that its operations warranted a larger facility. Oliver T. Joy, founder of NOTIFIER, helped launch the modern-day Fire System/Life Safety giant and, along with his wife Dr. Margaret Joy, who acted as executive Vice President, and a team of dedicated employees committed to quality, helped make the term “NOTIFIER” synonymous with “Fire Protection."

From a few NOTIFIER fire alarm systems installed in nursing homes and hospitals within a 100 mile radius of Lincoln, Nebraska, NOTIFIER now provides protection for such industrial giants as General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company and IBM. Today you'll find NOTIFIER systems at work EVERYWHERE from the Grand Ole Opry to Independence Hall; from nuclear power plants in Spain to hospitals in Saudi Arabia; everything from simple single-zone installations to sophisticated high-rise systems are hard at work and performing top-rate for everyone from industry moguls to local school boards.

NOTIFIER is now the leading worldwide manufacturer of fire alarm control panels and their peripheral devices, access control systems and facility monitoring systems. NOTIFIER distributes its products through a network of authorized Engineered System Distributors (ESDs). Currently in place are in excess of 400 such distributors worldwide. In addition, NOTIFIER has four manufacturing facilities and an energetic sales and support staff positioned in 19 offices spanning the globe. NOTIFIER products are accepted around the world by regulatory agencies as a premier product for fire detection and control. The company's 302,000 sq. ft. facility, located in Northford, CT, is NOTIFIER's world headquarters.

One of the major reasons for NOTIFIER's success is its steadfast commitment to Quality. First in the industry to be approved under ISO 9001 standards in April, 1993, NOTIFIER employs professionals in research, design, engineering and production. These dedicated professionals work as a tight-knit team to ensure compliance with performance specifications.

NOTIFIER's achievements translate into an operating philosophy that is a commitment to excellence, which ensures total customer satisfaction, highest quality, most complete product line, prompt on-time delivery, and competitive pricing.

Now, as is part of Honeywell International's Automation & Control Solutions Group (ACS), in the Fire Systems Group, growth of the company seems inevitable. Some fifty years since its humble beginnings, NOTIFIER is still looking toward its future.

NOTIFIER in the Community

NOTIFIER believes in being involved in the community in which we are located and where our employees live, and have been very active in supporting those agencies and charities which are making an important contribution to our area.

Through the Honeywell International Foundation. Inc., NOTFIER sponsors programs offered by agencies such as: The American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House of New Haven, Battered Women's Shelter, Connecticut Food Bank, 2-1-1 Infoline, and numerous other agencies where we feel our donations are used to make our community a better place to live.

Each year we at NOTIFIER are especially involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation, Easter Seals Goodwill Rehabilitation Center and the United Way of America. Our employees participate by joining the annual walks, running special sales events, calling our customers and local vendors, and giving generously from their own pockets.

Honeywell International and NOTIFIER also realize that all of our futures depend upon the youth of today. We actively participate in College Scholarship Programs for our own employees as well as offer scholarships in colleges offering U.S. Fire Science Programs including The University of New Haven of New Haven, CT, Worcester Polytechnic Institute of Worcester, MA, The University of Maryland at College Park, MD, and Oklahoma State University. NOTIFIER has also donated and installed fire equipment in at the University of New Haven's Fire Science Lab for the students to use in their studies.

We are very proud to be an active participant in the many local organizations that help to nurture and influence the next generation of NOTIFIER employees and future leaders through our contributions to many of the North Branford sports, drama, and scholarship foundations.

NOTIFIER's history goes back some 50 years, but we are still young enough to be able to share in preserving the heritage of our great country, as illustrated by the NOTIFIER Fire Alarm System donated to "Old Ironside" at the USS Constitution Museum at Charlestown Navy Yard in Massachusetts.

As a major player in the Fire Alarm/Life-Safety Industry, Honeywell International and NOTIFIER are very much aware of the needs of our fellow employees, customers, vendors and residents of our local community, and are proud of our commitment to make a difference.
